Still no real idea about the underlying reason for why the three back carriages of one train came off the rails which then crossed the tracks of the train coming the other way. Two other trains had gone over that section just 20 minutes earlier, and there was no report of a problem from them.

Apparently they are investigating a gap or weld in the rail that may have broken.

Some strong words in there. One can only hope other leaders, (in particular I'm looking at you Starmer), take notice.

I watched it on BBC news this afternoon. Very good.

Without naming names or particular events, you can work out things he's referring to to make his points. He can either write a good speech himself, or has a good writer working with/for him, as it's got good arc and argument in a not-very-long speech.

Our view is the middle powers must act together because if we’re not at the table, we’re on the menu.

But I’d also say that great powers can afford, for now, to go it alone. They have the market size, the military capacity, and the leverage to dictate terms. Middle powers do not. But when we only negotiate bilaterally with a hegemon, we negotiate from weakness. We accept what’s offered. We compete with each other to be the most accommodating.

This is not sovereignty. It’s the performance of sovereignty while accepting subordination.

Edit: I don’t know if UK would be classed as a middle power or a little power

The man's got a brain, and knows how to use language. We genuinely are lucky he was elected when he was, and Canada is a good place for his being a witness and participant in this chapter.
