Did Richard Rogers accelerate this trend, doing fancy-looking fantasies, then, once he'd won the contract, charging real architects and engineers to turn them into buildable structures?

There are quite strong arguments for living in a place where if you step out of your residence you don't immediately die.

Someone obviously thought that HS2 is going so well that a loop railway connecting major cities the British Isles with *two* tunnels under the Irish sea would be viable.

It would be nice if government's could dream a bit bigger, but this seems a bit unrealistic.
