I saw that. There is still a lot of investment in fuel cell technology, because hydrogen is still seen as a viable renewable energy storage medium. It isn't clear to me yet whether there will be a sufficiently large "hydrogen economy" for more borderline battery/fuel cell applications (such as HGVs) to back a hydrogen production and storage industry.

It will depend on battery technology. In think we will soon transition from heavy and inconveniently reliable and long lived (inconvenient for the auto industry) batteries to lighter solid state batteries that give better range and charging capacity, but which don't last long. Hard to tell of the economics will work outside of personal transportation.
