Sky News need a slap in the face. The two, yes *two* Israelis were "killed", while a mere 400 Lebanese people, getting second billing were simply "left dead". I simply don't understand how any news source can justify this.

Amazing that this doesn't seem to have damaged Central Station next door. That said, it's going to be as traumatic to Glasgow as the destruction of the Royal Clarence Hotel was to Exeter - I just hope that Glasgow doesn't take as long to deal with the aftermath.

I was in Exeter at the time of that fire ten years ago (It wasn't me Guv!). How far off is the completion of the rebuild?

At least it's at last being rebuilt into (posh) apartments now by a very good local firm. It's been a litany of shameful stuff (not least the original owner running off with the insurance money), and has been an eyesore in Cathedral Close for way too long.

To be honest, it's remarkable that the whole of 'St Martin's Island' didn't burn down that night and in the following days: it's the last remaining block of medieval buildings in Exeter, mostly full of ancient timbers and with lots of hidden cavities.

It is a shame, but I am fairly sure that the facade will eventually have a modern building behind it.

Fortunately, the upper level platforms are quite a long way to the south of the block that Central Station occupies, and the station has several other entrances (the Union St. one is bound to be closed indefinitely though). It is one of the grandest stations in the country, so something of a blessing that it is largely unharmed.
