I'm not even sure if this journalist should be trusted with a pen, let alone a car. It's all very well being a numpty, but I can't help thinking he'd be better off not telling the world that he is.

This is quite the graph - a good one, at that. Well, not that 80% of maternal deaths were caused by unsafe abortions, obviously. But the decline is extraordinary.

Poor guy.

At least he's not been named, as far as I know, but the trauma and sense of guilt will probably haunt him to the grave. Just to think he was responsible for the planes in the air, the planes and everything else on the ground. I've since seen video of the collision, and the plane was definitely doing more than 24mph, and it's amazing that only the pilots were killed.

I've sometimes watched all the stuff going on at Charles de Gaulle airport, where planes are taking off and landing literally every minute, and am in awe of the safety systems and protocols that must be operating to keep everyone safe.

Absolutely a case of institutional failure, this guy was placed in a position that was in no way his fault. Those above him should be held to account for failing to ensure the necessary capacity was in place, and therefore the safety of all concerned. They likely won't be, but they should.

I suspect that those above him realised that they'd actually have to shut down the airport if they didn't try and wing it with just the one ATC, os used the safety protocol of keeping fingers crossed.
