That's one hell of a photo of the local forest fire... last night, before the first lot of rain. Tonight's storm should have put most of it out. There is a river between the fire and the town, but it's still pretty close.

Hang on, isn't London the murder capital of the world, living under Sharia law?

I saw this and for a moment thought that the forest fire in France had taken off again, when I looked at the photo on the left.

I'd not want to be the owner of that house under the trees.

Interesting development regarding a farmer who killed a burglar. No charges being brought.

We will all remember the Tony Martin case, where he shot a burglar in the back, which was his downfall.

This incident must have been different, or has the law changed?

Pretty sure Martin didn't have a firearms license.

Martin had an unlicensed gun and shot the boys as they were running away from his property. His self-defence of reasonable force therefore carried no weight. He was not defending himself.

No details are given of this incident, but CPS presumably see no prospect of a successful murder charge thus suggesting that they feel that it was reasonable self defence when faced with burglars.

I think my favourite ridiculousness is that you can get married, have kids, and die for the army all before you can legally have (what passes for) a pint in the USA.

I recall some UK person age 20 getting done for that, then subsequently being refused entry to the US years later because they had a criminal record.
