I think my favourite ridiculousness is that you can get married, have kids, and die for the army all before you can legally have (what passes for) a pint in the USA.

Don’t forget they can buy a gun at 18 and learn to drive at 14 in some states.

But they can opt out which begs the question why bother? It's just more reaction to the hot topic of the day producing ill thought out policies / legislation that satisfied no-one.
