I used to have an original mini and loved it. It even took four adults on a holiday in Scotland. I drove one recently, more than 50 years later, and couldn’t believe how bad it was.

I've had a few classics. They have charm but they are terrible to drive compared to even the cheapest of modern cars.

You haven't lived unless you've driven one of these up the M6.

To a large extent, yes. You need the space to fit crumple zones and airbags.

But why do they need to be wider? The doors on a mk3 Cortina were just as wide as those on my current car. They are apparently stuffed full of impact bars and airbags, whilst those on the Dagenham Dustbin contained only fresh air and lots of rust.

Sevenoaks, you say? 🤔😉
It actually gets better. Not only is it a disused golf course near a rail station - it's also very, very close to the M25 and on the other side of the station is...

A golf course.

It does seem to be the ideal place to build new homes without taking too much of a chunk out of the countryside.
