Well it's not for you or me to say what's interesting, Brian.

Have we got an 'interest quotient monitor' now? 🤔

You missed the point.
We used to be rule makers with the EU until some monumental farkup happened.

Tice banging on about this did make me laugh. We left from a strong position that included a veto and now we want to trade with them we have to accept their rules.

The fishing thing is odd too as the deal will apparently make it easier for our brave fisherfolk to sell their hard earned catches to a European market that dwarves the UK for most fish and shellfish.

A veto is not making the rules.

Also people seem to forget we do trade with the the EU and have a trade deal with them.

Everything to play for. One has to hope that the closeness will energise all the people who don't want to see the far right in charge, as happened in Romania.

This. It's all rather depressing. Starmer's never had any charisma or ability to enthuse, and even though I think he's probably competent and honest (so an improvement on what he followed), no deep convictions or the ability to communicate them. I'm wary of charismatic snake oil salesmen (after all, that's a fair description of Farage), but we've got no-one like Thatcher or Blair with the confidence of their convictions, right or wrong.

I think I'm turning into P Blakeney...

Great news. Netflix have picked up the rights to long running subversive socialist propaganda outlet Sesame Street.

Today's letter is O. For Orange.

Give me a time machine and I'll go back and fix all of that. Now back to the current government...

Okay, back to the current govt. They have secured trade deals with India and the USA (which you, prior to such deals, personally said would be a good thing if Labour could negotiate them), played a leading role in supporting Ukraine and bringing together a European security coalition. Oh, and just agreed a new deal with our largest trading partners that will improve our position on trade, fishing, agriculture, energy and more.

The Brexit voters will no doubt bang on about immigration, but our largest levels of net migration occurred under a Tory govt. in direct response to the problems caused by their own Brexit folly.

It's easy to be blasé when you aren't personally affected but plenty of people in industries that relied on trade with EU countries and EU support (fishing and farming being the obvious examples always trotted out) were badly impacted by this. Brexit voters in general talk a lot about patriotism and sovereignty and bettering the UK, but voting for something that made your fellow citizens poorer and then pretending it never happened, or worse still, not giving a toss about them, is hardly patriotic.
