That'll do, but let's hope that Starmer takes the right lesson from this: the votes he needs to chase are on the left, not the far right.

I think the demographics of that particular seat played a huge role and might not necessarily be a reflectIon of the national vote (except that Labour and the Tories are probably on life support everywhere).

Has Brian posted on the wrong thread - there's a thread for the Greens, one for reform and one for Labour, any of which are set up for reporting a by-election result, rather than here on the general news thread.

WTF. Broadly on the right - Broadly on the left?
Chris Mason is useless.

That alone should tell Starmer to bat straight down the middle.

I've no idea if they do post-by-election polling/focus groups to see why people voted the way they did, but my guess is that a lot of the Labour vote was *despite* their Reformy stuff, not because of it (because those people will have voted Reform anyway), but some wavering Labour voters will have voted Green either because (despite the barmier stuff) they aren't making anti-foreigner noises, or they voted tactically as that seemed the most likely way to stop Reform.

tl;dr Starmer ought to drop Mahmood and her enthusiastic Braverman tribute policies... but I'm not sure he's got the clarity of vision or courage to do so. I won't hold my breath.

Gov. Minister on the radio this morning and ... electorate has got it wrong, unions have got it wrong, critical backbenchers have got it wrong ... Starmer has got it right.

Starmer & his cronies gone full Buzz Lightyear "To Oblivion and Beyond". They really seem to be rejecting anything and everything including the decisions of the electorate!
