You don’t have to be into sports. He was a great of Rugby League but has had extensive media coverage for about 7 years now doing his MND fundraising work in memory of his mate Rob Burrow. I’m genuinely staggered anyone not living off grid hasn’t heard of him.

Helen Mirren has been made a Companion of Honour.
There are only ever 65 at any one time, so it’s a one in one out policy.
Sadly David Hockney was also CH, so there is already another space to fill.

Feb 2023 to March 2026: 42 awarded honours have been revoked/forfeited.

To me a flawed system that should be stopped. There are other ways to recognise significant contributions to society.

Although he and Rob Burrow were sportsmen what he did was far bigger than just sport. Even my wife knew about what he has done, and she is not exactly a sports fan.

Sometimes I believe there's a bit of snobbishness about lack of interest in the more popular activities. A bit like people who go out of their way to tell you they're vegan. There's no need to do it.
