Explaining drowning?

Quality stuff.

To be fair in the last heat wave a few weeks back nearly 20 people drowned in water. Whilst it may seem obvious to most of us, both the risks, and signs when someone is in trouble, it isn't to everyone. If a bit of education saves a life or more then surely that's worth it?

I don't disagree. I live next to a river and the sea.

I just wasn't sure how someone who knew about drowning was pleasing ignorance.

Alan Greenspan dies aged 100:

In 1952, Greenspan met the right-wing novelist and social philosopher Ayn Rand, whose views were to have a profound influence on him.

She called him "the undertaker" because of his liking for dark, sombre suits.

But the young economist came to support her belief that society functions most efficiently when people actively pursue their own self-interests, to the exclusion of the interests of society as a whole.

There was a supercell thunderstorm near Wells this afternoon which closed Bristol airport for an hour or two, and which dumped about 3 inches of rain in no time at all, with thousands of lightning strikes. But I've seen no photos!

This is the cumulative rainfall map.

That kind of weather caused a lot of damage in the south east of Ourense just a couple of days ago. There was a big forest fire last year in the hills above the villages, and without plant cover the big volume of rain dragged the hillsides with it

If it doesn't rain on French forests very soon, it's going to be an intense year of forest fires - there have been several small ones in my area already, and I just don't think the state has scaled up enough for the 'new normal'... I think they essentially need to at least double up on the number of Canadairs available regionally, as if there are two major fires going on at the same time, they simply can't keep up.

I cycled into the office from Portway P&R and was racing it back to the car. I got caught in a downpour between Sea Mills and Shirehampton but got to the car as the thunder and lightning was just arriving. Luckily the drive home took me out of it.
