To be fair, the Tesla Y had a significant revamp.

IMHO the major problem is that Musk is the majority owner. Since he came out as a neo-nazi, he has tanked Tesla sales. He spent far too long on the Cybertruck which can only be sold in the USA. He cancelled the Tesla X in the UK. The sales pitch of Full Self Drive is just a broken record.

The plus side is that Tesla are still great cars. Hi tech and well thought through from the tech side. An idiot ran into the back of my daughter's Fiat 500 and bounced off into a Tesla. Insurance claim was a slam dunk as the Tesla driver had full dashcam footage both rear and front when the driver sped off. He also chased and caught the young idiot in question and got all the insurance details. My ID4 is the same price as a Tesla 4 but in terms of tech and equipment it might as well be a ZX81 in comparison.

The other problem Musk has is that he has rehabilitated the Chinese. Chinese imports are booming and the cars are good - and less expensive.

It's inevitable Tesla new sales will decline. Every month I seem to see a new brand of Chinese ev on the roads. I don't think Tesla or European manufacturers can compete on price on new evs. Value/used is a different metric, but for those who want to buy new the high end innovators inevitably lose out to the lower priced late comers. I still think Teslas are a good used buy because I'm not sure you'll be able to get panels and spares for your 15 year old Chery Tiggo in 2041.

Presumably the Tesla needed half the car's exterior replacing for a relatively minor ding.

Tesla's a incredibly ugly, and as you say, their global sales have tanked due to Musk being a Nazi, and that there are loads of cheaper alternatives that look a million times better.

I'm looking into getting an EV through a company scheme. The Model Y ticks all the boxes for me but isn't on my shortlist almost entirely due to Musk (plus I really hate the interior). I'm struggling to think of other businesses where the biggest negative to their product is the owner.

Many companies won't list the Tesla at all due to the sky high insurance costs. My company removed it 8 weeks after I started back in October 2021

The Model Y is available at a reasonable price on my scheme as long as you avoid the performance model. For the premium long range version, 3 years and 12k miles a year it's around £570 net (40% tax payer) so similar to other cars in the class.
