Chris Peckham has settled the two legal cases he'd brought against the government regarding their environmental policies.

I'm not entirely sure what the outcome will be, but it's good that someone has used their profile to hold them to task.

Isn’t this just a “kick the can down the road” job? Ie re-instate the original objectives, and, worry about missing them when the time comes (and, possibly, you are not in government).

Yes and no I suppose. At least having the original objectives in place is something, rather than abandoning them before any effort was made towards them.

But then Keir already backtracked on a £28 billion a year green investment plan at COP28, so who knows what we'll end up with.

Not much probably, but like I said I'm more pleased that the government is being challenged.

I was a bit lazy to read that article properly (it was quite dense, IMO !!), but if the dates on the objectives are the same I don't see a problem. IF ...

A1 dualling north of Morpeth cancelled.

Maybe due to recognition that we have to get people to use cars less.
Though I suspect it was only first announced as an election gimmick by the conservatives.

As far as I can see, there is little or nothing for transport in the Northumberland, Tyneside, Wearside, Teeside area. Nothing about Metro extension, no new or updated rail links.

TGFT.

The Leamside line thing is just political play. I suppose there could be some Metro expansion on it but even that is a very fraught financial case itself.
A few thousand quid spent on the Follingsby section, Amazon southwards as a cycle to work route would be useful, it leading to good employee catchment area.

Cycle route would be welcome, although, to be fair, I regularly cycle that area without issue. But, metro would be more useful for those travelling to work in the wider area. The (Labour) regional mayor has touted such an extension.

They've been banging on about expanding the Metro for as long as anyone can remember. The Northumberland line was due to open a year ago, then summer, now it's December for three stations and next year for the actual extension.

The lack of investment in public transport in the North East is a joke.

Exactly, and, unless I have missed something, this budget (although as I said, it is OK for me personally) has not addressed that.

My overall impression of most budget announcements (rightly or wrongly) is that the Tyne and Wear region (and County Durham) is a bit of an afterthought.
