So you're saying that of the 1000s, only a "small number might be breaking the law"; but all of the 65 were?

No, I'm saying it's unrealistic for the police to arrest a small number of law breakers (if they were indeed breaking the law) whilst surrounded by thousands of people, whereas it is realistic for them to arrest a smaller number (if they were indeed breaking the law) who are part of a relatively small demo.

Thanks, but I don't think we've got to the bottom of it.
Were any breaking the law? (and if so, was it by marching, or by additional aggravating offences such as criminal damage, or abusing Our Brave Police?)
Were all the JSO protestors breaking the law?

(I appreciate you may not know the answer to these, but surely SOMEONE in the massive NACA brain consortium does?!? )

How many arrests were there at the pro-Palestine marches at the weekend?

I thought it was just three or four for scuffles, assault and racist banners but the Minister on Today prog duty today repeatedly asserted 'dozens'.

EDIT: Press reports suggest around 10.

Thanks. So why weren't the marchers issued with a s7 order, as per here:

DOZENS of climate protesters were arrested in London’s Parliament Square yesterday, just 10 minutes after they started marching against new oil and gas projects.

About 65 activists from Just Stop Oil were detained after the issuing of a Section 7 order, which criminalises members of the public based on alleged interference with “the use or operation of key national infrastructure.”

I'm not trying to comment on which of these protests "deserve" to go ahead:
I'm genuinely interested in what powers police now have (and how they choose to use them). The recent beefing up of these powers is genuinely worrying, doubly so now Braverman is threatening to create further new law if it suits her regime :-\

Just when you thought she couldn't become even more heartless. It's as if she's competing with Lee Anderthal for party leadership.

The UK home secretary’s proposals also include a new civil offence to deter charities from giving tents to homeless people.

Is there a non-paywall version available? I tried using 12ft.io but that site has been temporarily disabled.

EDIT: Scrap that, I found a cached version of the story. What a vile woman she is.
