It really is Alice in wonderland stuff. As Xipe said eloquently:
Why do their fans, their followers, their advocates all deny observable reality?

Because they are high on Jesus and Donald. Or should that be Donald and Jesus?

I get that many magas rightly feel they have been ignored and neglected for decades. Now, at last, they have a prophet who tells them they are important.

When the reality dawns I fear it will be far too late. Just like Brexit as @briantrumpet says.

It's just a bad period for US politics full stop, with neither party offering much in the way of a sensible middle-way vision that could bring the country together.
I agree about "bad time" but my thoughts go round in circles about the Democrats. Even were the Democrats to have themselves in order and be coherently vocal what would it achieve when everything is happening from Trump |(no Senate, no Congress, etc. just one sharpie pen).

Maybe after the Biden farce Democrats do need to spend some time reflecting to sort out a viable way forward just in case there are elections at the end of Trump's term.

Edit: also, in the UK I'm not certain how much of apparent Democrat nothingness is due to reporting in the UK where Trump is swallowing up all the bandwidth.

Doesn't work. You'd just get "Not the MAGA I voted for". Remember "Not the Brexit I voted for" from who got what they voted for ie Brexit.

Oh yes, we'd get the full range of excuses, but it would still have entertainment value if the questioning could expose even a little of their complicity (or, more charitably, naivety) in how things have played out.

I think part of the problem in the US is how cowed the US media is by politicians, and only a few, such as Mehdi Hasan, really take them to task when the spew provable lies. The world in general could do with more like him, and looking back, Brian "I must press you on that" Waldens.

Two vital bits of TV for reflecting on TV/media behaviour: The Day Today, and the fifth season of The Wire. They illustrate how both print and visual media have been corrupted by the need to entertain, to keep the revenue coming in.

Anyone ever taken the time to explain to Usanians that Jesus was born in Palestine and didn't give a fig about the Americas.

Because it's more comforting than admitting they've ballsed up. Not entirely unlike Brexit.

I think that is far too simplistic BT. I think the MAGA's really believe in conspiracies, the 'deep state', nefarious immigrants and liberals who they think are going to convert them all to gays and transgenders and they are all going to be subsumed by POC - it's a threat to them. It's a paranoia that is currently being tapped in to by the far right administration. What's worrying is that it is all too easy to tap into.

Ever met a guy who is in complete denial of his sexuality - defending his machismo to the point of being hostile?

I see no difference. Aggressively defending God and Country, their way of life and 'family values' because they have convinced themselves that Liberals/illegals/the deep state are actively planning to erode those values? The Kamala Harris's and the Cortez's are the archetypal purveyors of an intolerable ethic. It's almost a fear of intelligence, of abstract thought, of philosophy in same vein as Plato's Republic
John Lennon: 'A working class hero is something to be; they hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool'.

They are desperately clinging on to a set of contrived values. God is a chocolate teapot and chocolate teapots are fragile. Ego's are fragile. Immigrants are a threat. Liberals want control and will convert your child to a perverse sexuality. Worse, some of them don't believe in the chocolate teapot.

Russell's teapot is an analogy, formulated by the philosopher Bertrand Russell (1872–1970), to illustrate that the philosophic burden of proof lies upon a person making empirically unfalsifiable claims, as opposed to shifting the burden of disproof to others.

What no god?! No god means lawlessness and without the virtues of god you have no morality, no heaven to go to. It's so very frightening to them. It's like they are stuck in that juvenile state where the world is seemingly chaotic and inexplicable and without a God, nothing makes sense and existence becomes somehow meaningless. You have to defend it with all your might.

The Americas didn’t exist (except to the indigenous populations) until Columbus discovered it, or, possibly a bit earlier when some vikings found it. 😊
