An interesting thought presented in "The Rest is Politics US" today about how much of what people are speculating about won't ever happen, just Trump wants to present himself as a fighter, he wants the fight. eg Canada will not become the 51st State, US tanks won't be crossing borders northbound but Trump likes the US seeing him as "tough", up for the fight. Similarly with Greenland, he's not going to militarily invade an autonomous state of a NATO member with the risk we'd honour Article 5 like we did last time.

He wants US population to see his tough man fighting, it's ego & narcissism.

In the end when he can't perpetuate the "fight" any more he'll adjust the reasons and claim victory.

I think a lot of that is true. The real danger and threat though is the outcome in Ukraine and a Trump/USA that is doing Russia's bidding, by proxy, has a very real ability to cause huge problems in Europe. He is an idiot but a very useful one for Putin and the role that the US may well come to play in this conflict (whether by design or default) may well have huge repercussions for Ukraine and Europe.

I don't think the USA have ever given foreign sovereign countries any thought about the problems it causes them if it means they can profit. We've pretty much seen this in much of the recent decades alone, particularly in the middle east, for obvious reasons. Europe has largely been unaffected* owing to the strategic value of their weapons and forces on the continent, within easy striking distance of the Middle East, but a US strategic shift means they place less stock in this policy and need and are looking at other ways to exploit the European continent instead.

*To add: Europe has took the brunt of the effect of US foreign policy in terms of refugees and displaced population.

I find the whole anti Europe sentiment odd. I assume it is because there are several far right populists in the Trump administration that despise liberal democracies?

Is it partly because most EU countries, with lower inequality, universal access to health care, good quality of life, less gun crime and no mass opioid addiction problems, challenges the sense of superiority the US has?

The fact their immediate response is to discredit the journalist , just shows the contempt they have.
The journalist acted extremely professionally and immediately highlighted the issue.

The USA have long been the self appointed leaders of the free world, and with that comes benefits and responsibilities. It isn’t surprising that some smaller states have freeloaded a bit.

Suddenly they don’t like the responsibility and don’t perceive any benefit to themselves. But they are being extremely short sighted.

To openly embarrass your allies is a complete failure in diplomacy.

Will the adults in the CIA and military step in at some point?

It's got out of hand, they like the rest of the western world have been spending far more than they can afford. It's Trump who is actually trying to slash the budget deficit and the overall debt mountain. Many before have paid only lip service to the monumental task.

Just seen some of the messages on BBC News, really worrying how childish they are, apart from anything else. These people are supposedly senior members of government, of a super power.

The Tw@t is blatantly lying again in his press conference about how much the US has given to Ukraine against what Europe has given.
He's also claiming the cost of all sorts of things, including eggs, are down.
