Just in case anyone was thinking about taking Harry Cole seriously... redefining 'copium'...

Thank you.

It still feels like half a story tho’. Unless AES can read reporters minds.

See my comment: AES didn't say what they are claiming he said, in essence, as far as I can see.

EDIT - ah, I can see you've seen my comment. I just think it's a non-story, until DT invent the idea that AES was dissing the UK, not the reporter.

So 2 years of nothing getting done in the US with Trump vetoing every law Congress tries to pass being vetoed (Trump has already started calling himself Mr Veto)
Hypothesising (guessing) that the Republicans have lost so badly it might be that they now appreciate that Trümp and MAGA are not a "winning ticket" and are in reality are damaging their electoral prospects. With no more significant elections with Trümp involved they might try to break with MAGA and stop being Trúmp puppies and try to convince the electorate they are taking a different path and that might allow enough on some issues to vote with the Democrats to bring support for a bill to levels where Trümp cannot veto it.

I haven't seen a single discussion about winning Democrat policies, just that it was an anti-Trump vote. They need to take that on board rather than imagining this is a pro Democrat landslide, otherwise it will be 5 years of JD Vance next time.

Do the party not in power in the US have policies? There are politicians who espouse certain policies but I am not sure that they operate as an opposition party. They seem to wait until they have to nominate and elect someone to stand for the presidency before coming together with any party policies.

I wonder how 'concerned' Susan Collins is that she looks likely to lose her Maine Senate seat. It's about time. She supposedly didn't like Trump and the wilder parts of his agenda (and wilder appointments), but only voted against him when she knew her vote wouldn't make any difference.

This. I find it such a strange arrangement. It's no wonder 'Dems in disarray' is such a common theme.

It won't be Vance, because he has the charm of rotting fruit. But it might not be any better.

I believe the Democrats know the score, even if they cant agree amongst themselves what to do.

The fairly left wing (for the US) candidates won't win them the White House, they know this. But the guy who just won Georgia - you know, another wealthy white male, rather than anyone with a womb or any funny ideas like Islam, or a name that makes them seem shifty and foreign - might be able to get the party to coalsece for a presidential campaign.

The starting gun has now fired in that by the way. My concern is that Trump will be left to his own devices while both parties squabble internally.

I do wonder if it's possible that Trump will politically not-give-a-shit about the Republican Party now, and do his best to avoid financial and legal consequences as best he can, leaving his cult members to question their life choices without that aid of their cult leader.

(I'm a but surprised that my predictive text allowed 'cult' without a suggested alternative.)

That was my hope, along with Trump effectively being the front man of MAGA and there being no other successor with his "charisma" for want of a better word.
