When Trump complains the helicopter was flying way above the "limit", am I the only one wondering if he's mixing up minimum and maximum limits for altitude?
I have no idea about the specific airport and its air regs. but there can be various altitude limits for different types of aircraft round commercial airports. I used to fly from High Wycombe and even there Heathrow ATC regulations limited us to a max. altitude until we got to the Chiltern cutting (though that was enough years ago that I can't remember the altitude limit). But when I flew from a commercial airport in France there were no limits but I did have to radio to ATC Control Tower before take-off and approach for landing. That said I used to fly gliders and virtually everything gives-way to gliders.

But I must emphasise I know nothing of the airport of commercial rules, etc.

Edit: And I'm certainly not trying to defend Trump's madness on this or anything else.

It's complicated. The 200ft limit Trump seems to be referring to is not a general FAA flight regulation for helicopters. However, specific to the location and local regulations, the maximum flight height for helicopters operating at the airport is 200ft. The Blackhawk is reported as flying at 300ft, therefore this could be at least a contributory factor and at worst total culpability.

I said ''it's complicated'' because the FAA are not the body that regulate military aircraft and military pilots have something of a reputation for disregarding FAA regulations.

I will have thought that there remains the requirement for military pilots to comply with instructions from the tower.

What could possibly go wrong.

Elon Musk and his allies have successfully pushed out the highest-ranking official at the United States Treasury Department over their demands to access highly sensitive government payment information.

David A. Lebryk Secretary of the Treasury was only appointed by Trump just over a week ago.

The reason for Lebryk's departure is what has truly unnerved political observers, He had a dispute with Musk’s surrogates over access to the payment system the U.S. government uses to disburse trillions of dollars every year.

As one person put it.

All the smart, savvy bankers and CEOs who think they're just getting deregulation with a side of racism do not understand they will also be taken for a ride, as Trump and Musk treat the entire federal government like a mob protection racket, freely skimming anywhere they like.

This photograph shows the examination of one of the 'black boxes' from the aircraft. How long before somebody starts screaming 'diversity hire'?

With reference to Trump and the DEI story, it is now believed that Trump had read on Twatter that the pilot was a trans woman.

Screenshot-2025-01-31-at-12-29-01.png

The Daily Mail apparently then circulated the story without evidence until a phone call resolved the issue when Jo Ellis answered the telephone.

As it turned out, Jo Ellis, who is indeed a trans woman, transitioned while in service, so can not have been a 'diversity hire'. Also she was awarded the air medal for valour having served in Iran among other places.

And now the Fail are running an article ...

EXCLUSIVEThe truth behind rumor DC crash Black Hawk co-pilot was this transgender servicewoman

Almost as if they'd been interested in the truth the whole time.

Of course they could have gone with ''lycra clad Strava wristers brought down plane at Reagan Airport'' and still Daily Fail readers might have believed it. (OK I might have got carried away there somewhat, but the point is made).

Quote from Donnie about type of people that "can you believe it" they allow to apply

He said: "'The FAA website states they include hearing, vision, missing extremities, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, severe intellectual disability, psychiatric disability and dwarfism all qualified for the position of a controller of air planes pouring into our country, pouring into a little spot. A little dot on the map. A runway."

Soooooo
Missing extremities
partial paralysis
dwarfism

according to The President are terrible things to allow in an Air Traffic Controller

clearly Tirion Lannister was not clever enough - or Peter Dinklage, obviously - I suspect that Donnie is unclear about the difference

also - I do hope the Veteran Charities and organisation have noticed that fact that THEIR President - the person who is supposed to support and help them - has clearly said they should not be allowed to apply for jobs it they have e.g. a missing leg due to maybe a Taliban missile or something??

is this guy a total prat or just unable to think and speak in the same hour??

But does she still have a chopper?

Sorry, it's Friday night and I'm half pissed.

I think there might be some method in trump's - err - design (lets call it)

If he comes right out at the start and states it is a DEI hire that caused the problem

but gives no facts

and then - after a while - it comes out as a fact the trans-woman was in charge (of the helicopter but it doesn;t really matter where) then he has made a statement
and then later on a "fact" comes out about there being a trans-woman involved - who, as a bonus, may have been mentally ill - teh it is PROVED
PROVED I SAY - that he was right from the start

Of course some people might just ask for more evidence but the people that matter either have
a) all the proof they need
or
b) enough facts to support him in public whether the believe him or not

It just fell apart when it came out - to the surprise of ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE that twatter is not necessarily a reliable source of facts

who knew???
