To me, Trump's aims seem only about keeping him the focus of world attention, keeping everybody talking about him. eg "Donald Trump halted a key part of his tariff attack on China on Friday, as he threatened to impose new US duties on goods from many more countries next week." (from https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/07/trump-china-tariffs. Why announce he might do something yet no details so all the world can do is discuss what he may or may not do, what countries may or may not be affected and why he migth impose such tariffs, etc. Tariffs imposed, suspended the next day, partially changed, etc. just keeps the world discussing him.

His lies about sporks, which have been around for decades will be nothing when the Department of Education really comes under the spotlight. Particularly if as it appears, those behind Project 2025, are pulling the levers of power.
Ending the Head Start programme, which would end free school meals to over 3/4m children.
Acceleration of book banning.
Teachers having very little autonomy in what they teach.
Stripping of funding to high poverty schools.
Introduction of a voucher scheme that would benefit privately educated children.
Codifying attacks on the LGBTQ+ community through the education ststem.
