The Supreme Court explicitly put him (as President) above the law. He could literally order troops to shoot Democrats, and if he argued that he was carrying out an official act, then that's fine. Literally.

I think about 70% of their recent judgements have been on the 'shadow docket': they just publish a judgement with no explanation and no scrutiny. The only comments have come from dissenting opinions, some of which have been justifiably excoriating, when the judgements have gone directly against the Constitution (e.g. birthright citizenship).

You'd like to think that in 4 years time (if not before) that someone could overrule that, or at least define what constitutes "an official act".
You'd like to think.

The NYT is laying the groundwork for a headline along the lines of "Some people worry that executing illegal immigrants is unconstitutional; but it depends whom you ask."

Renaming American sports teams seems to be an official act.

The Washington Racial Epithets, for example.

Not a chance with this SC, for whom a monarchical president has long been a goal. It would be bad enough if were just that, but I suspect Trump has 'leverage' over one or two as well. If he had his way, Eileen Cannon would be in there too, as although she seems to know nothing about the law, she does just what Trump wants, every time.... remember the 'slam dunk' case about Trump removing top secret documents to store in his toilet...? Yeah, she was the one who got him out of that one.

Oh, I've given up all hope during this administration, and possibly beyond.

Ghislaine Maxwell subpoena'd for appearance before Noise oversight committee.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...ell-oversight-congress-subpoena-b2793795.html

Quickly stopped in their tracks.
You begin to wonder if she may have an "accident" between now and September.

"US House Speaker Mike Johnson announced an early adjournment of the chamber, stalling efforts to force the release of documents related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The move delays a politically fraught vote on the matter until September amid growing bipartisan pressure for transparency. It followed a key committee vote to subpoena Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's longtime associate, to testify before Congress."

Nah, they're going to offer her a pardon for saying Trump was very definitely not bestest friends with Epstein, and was barely ever there.

It’s a total shoot show.

All of their own making, by beating the drum continuously to stoke the MAGA base. Then denying everything.

Even MAGA can see through it.
