This is quite the collection of headlines from NBC

That was my hope, along with Trump effectively being the front man of MAGA and there being no other successor with his "charisma" for want of a better word.

I need to check the OED, but is the definition of 'charisma' being orange, narcissistic, and smelling of unchanged nappies?

"America liked fascism in principle but found it too expensive."

I'm not sure where this quote originated, but I've just seen it on Bluesky – I think there's some truth in it, even if the past ten years of Trump are partially as a result of the US electorate not bothering to vote in sufficient numbers because they thought that 'all politicians are the same'.

... Donnie in a corner could be a dangerous rat.
Might also be that a Trűmp empowered by a Midterms win (with Repulicans all believing he is a winning leader) might have been as dangerous or more dangerous or who knows.

Maybe to a degree the danger comes from Trūmp seeing his term in office running out and he has no legacy, no Nobel Peace Price and everything in a mess of his own making. Given his incompetence, maybe a lot of the danger is him failing to understand "When in a hole, stop digging".

Exactly. Its not 2008 any more and the US has become so liberal that racism is now mainstream and socially acceptable.

Abdul El-Sayed, Adam Hamawy, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Lateefah Simon, not to mention Zohran Mamdani, Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez.

Without statistics to show the facts I would imagine there are more foreign sounding and/or Muslim politicians in the US than there were in 2008.

Yes, but you are looking there at largely democratic strongholds, and in a presidential race you need enough of the hillbilly vote to win.

History suggests Obama is an outlier. They have after all voted in the interim against two very capable women, one of them a black woman, and voted for two octagenerian white males - neither of whom can possibly be considered the best people for the job.

The US as a whole isn't ready for the late 20th century just yet, let alone the 21st.
