"Aims" is as slippery a word as 'aspiration'. It'll all depend on how awkward the EU want to be, given they'll set the terms, should we ever get that far.

Given we left their club I expect them to be a touch spiteful.

From wat I can see and hear.

If you think it's not the case, what is your view based on?

Ah anecdotal/opinion. Thats all I wanted to know.

IIRC somewhere it's stated that acceding countries "should commit to joining the Euro", but that the formulation could leave wiggle room for how long the process takes (which is open-ended, not specified.)

"Yes Minister, we can definitely 'Commit' to joining the Euro and 'aim' for monetary Union just as we can 'Commit' to giving all pigs a luxury 5 star stye and 'aim' to use trotters as currency. There is nothing in the agreement about actually 'doing' anything - we just need to make the right noises and everyone is happy. The EU will be happy that we have said we will aim and commit, the UK is happy that we have made some empty promises, and everyone knows that none of it will ever happen."

"...including adherence to the aims of political, economic and monetary union."
If you believe that we can negotiate our way out of that then you are more of an optimist than me.
Not hard, I'll grant you. 😂

Not even I think we could do that even if we wanted to. I reckon that alone is a deal breaker for the electorate.

I found a benefit, at least for me…

If we had stayed in the EU I wouldn’t have been arsed to sort out dual nationality as I wouldn’t have really needed it. Anyway, we left and my new passport turned up today.

I’d still rather be in and would vote that way if the chance ever arises.

I’m not sentimental about the £. Use the euro quite a lot.

Sentimentality may play a part for some, but for me at least it's more about having control of our own currency and being able to set interest rates that suit the UK, for example.

I suspect their attitude would depend on the situation at the time. eg lots of polls over long term showing attitudes have changed together with having moved a lot closer eg maybe joining the EEA, acceptance of standards, not behaving like US puppydog etc. and they may be more positive. But suddenly a PM with declining approval ratings who needs a distraction and thinks it might benefit the UK and they'd be telling us to take a hike.

I certainly would expect them to be very cautious given recent history, and would be very wary if there's any indication of the UK electorate/government having wobbly or equivocal attitudes to the EU. The last thing they need a rerun of Brexit all over again (even if it has actually weakened anti-EU sentiment within the EU).

I'm pretty sure that we could rejoin without joining the Euro. That said, my money is in numbers on a card these days.

My current impression is that the EU does have rules for countries joining but which of those rules are actually enforced depends on how much they want you to join. There is flexibility. But after Brexit, they would be sceptical about UK so I suspect all rules would be rigorously applied. Plus, require joining the € ties us in to the EU a lot more making another Brexit much harder bit like the "Golden handcuffs".

That said, I'd be very happy for UK to join €.

and we're close to twice as many people thinking it was wrong to leave as think it was right.
