The challenge it faces is that after Trump's steel tariffs other countries will need to find somewhere to sell their steel into ie dumping (given worldwide overproduction) and with big state subsidies in some countries eg China they need to safeguard their own manufacturing capacity, just like the UK has done by eg taking over steel works.

All they are doing is responding to the market disruption Trump has created.

I understand why they might be doing it, but was commenting on the relative lack of criticism compared to what the US did (see Trump thread).
