Some labour mp tried to say this publicised murder was down to transphobia on Mumsnet

Mumsnet members ripped her to shreds. So much so she went crying to the police. Mumsnet administrators said they wanted her to report any posts that were not legal. They were perfectly happy with the members responses as far as they could see

Surprised to see an Israeli flag attached to a tweet like this.

Weirdly (and rightly or wrongly), I actually agree with the spatial awareness line in this latest rule change about transgender people participating in chess. Though as pointed out that's a mixed opinion based on perhaps nothing more than perception or bias.

There are no physical advantages at stake here, so why the change?

Same reason they have scholarships and placements aimed just at women or just at ethnic minorities in other areas in which they are underrepresented, like science. It's to provide opportunities and raise the profile of Women's Chess. This is helped by preserving the Women's comps just for women, though many comps are Open/Mixed.

Didn't you go on a course that was exclusively for a particular minority group of would be comedians? The reason for it being just for that demographic wasn't because they aren't as funny as everyone else and can't compete, was it? It was to provide opportunities and a safe space. Perfectly good reasons.

Odd then a grandmaster and two-time US Women's champion, Jennifer Shahade, has criticised the new rules.
She feels the move will stop women playing.

And speaking as someone who has been on more than one course for a "specific demographic", I fought for inclusion within the majority. They were the ones that didn't like me being on "their courses". When the DDA became law that argument was useless. Many courses were soon dropped due to the vocal few that didn't want people such as me on the same course as them. It was felt that we somehow lowered the worth of the qualification. Courses were simply stopped.
For some, two years into a three year course, which meant no qualification after two years work. Final year being spent on placement. Who lost out there?

Neither of those last two points you raise, yet again were mentioned in the piece.

Jibber jabber nonsense. Are there any unplumbed depths yet?

Women should feel insulted by this irrationality.

Women and girls should be overjoyed that another institution recognises the need for women to be recognised, protected for their biological sex

Presumably black authors should be insulted by the existence of prizes and competitions that only promote the work of black authors. Disabled writers should be insulted by the existence of the Barbellion Prize that prioritises only their voices. Better tell the MOBO music awards how insulting they are to black people too.

Isn’t the nonsense the part that talks about male brains having "a large and consistent advantage over women in spatial ability, on which chess relies to a large extent"?

You'll be a firm supporter of The Lambda Literary Award I take it. Going on what I'm replying to.

The Barbellion Prize was given this year and it's future is in doubt, after only three years. But writing about how you live with a disability isn't just a special prize/award, you'll find such books in mainstream booksellers.
