Norooz is the Persian new year celebration. I takes place on the day of the spring equinox, and the actual celebration happens at the time that the ecliptic crosses the solar plane. It is the most popular celebration of the Persian calendar, much more than either of the islamic eids, one of which almost happens at the same time this year.
