Iran have confirmed their new leader as the son of the old leader.
Trump won’t be happy.

No. Nor a Canadian accent when I was there. Just the odd turn of phrase, and I spoke a bit slower in some circumstances I think, to enable me to actually communicate.

Joking aside (am I joking?... not sure)...

I know that my writing style tends towards 'correct' (even if I get told off by @PurplePenguin for using trendy lingo like 'ratioed'), as I do care about communicating my thoughts vaguely efficiently and with clarity. With a bit of sweariness popped in for 'colour' and 'authenticity'. I can do academic writing pretty well, and argued the finer points with my MA tutor (and generally won).

But I'm anything but posh. I was once amused by a nearish neighbour, who had come into money via marriage and was living in a nearby 'posh' house (mine is a two-up, two-down), who asked me if I did 'labouring', as they needed some manual work doing. I guess I looked the part, in my tiny house.

Okay I believe you. I need some work done, btw.

If you'll forgive the unrequested style guide, "If one makes the argument..." etc. (as opposed to "If you...") is an elegant way out of suggesting that you're addressing an individual. I've occasionally realised that an observation I've made sounds personal, when I've had no intention of being personal!

Make sure you hand your English homework in on time, MG, or you might get a detention! 😜🤣

I know, there is just something about the addressing of "one" that, as someone born and raised in the Black Country, I just cannot bring myself to use.

It's wot poshos would say ain't it! 😂

Edit* just noticed First Aspect's comment!

Well from what Jenrick said, the Reform point of view is ‘we shouldn’t take part in the actual murder but when our mate says he’s going to kill the bloke down the pub that’s been looking at him funny we should offer him a knife to do the job’ and that basically Starmer is a loser for keeping his knives locked in a drawer.

As an aside, one of my favourite ever language related anecdotes was a guy who had gone to visit a friend and his wife (Tina, this will become relevant!) in a certain Black Country town.

On his first night, approaching dinner, the conversation between the married couple went:

Husband: Tay, wot times Tay?
Tina: Tay, ya cor av yer tay, i'tay tay time.

It's just a mobster demand for a regime that'll give all the oil to Trump, with the Kurds doing all the work to enable it.

I'm increasingly seeing this as a totally unholy alliance between Trumplandia and Israel to mould the world order to benefit their respective aims politically and financially. I'll admit that it leaves my head in a funny place with regards my sympathies towards Iran and both its people and government, as I want the naked assault on its independence to fail, but at the same time know that its regime is reprehensible, and I'm not sure what's the 'least worst'.
It seems this war has the potential to end Trump, and for that reason I hope the yanks have solicited a protracted, very bloody nose.

In terms of immediate threat to global security it appears that Iran poses less risk that the US while it remains under Trump's control.

If you've never heard a proper Devon accent though, it's a thing of wonder, which is fast dying out. I've been in the middle of conversations like this, and that chortle behind it is almost universal... I have a theory that the accent developed around telling a jolly good yarn about how hard things were, but trying to get a laugh out of it. Five minutes of pure joy for me.
