The lives lost is a sacrifice that he is willing to make.
#barronfirst

Desperate and panicky old man dodging a coffin who doesn't have an empathetic bone in his body and two independent brain cells to rub together living in a fantasy world of ballrooms, Crypto, oil revenue and Sharpies. Sharpies are the things that sign executive orders. They are a symbol of power, of importance and you can draw the bigliest willies, fantastic sky scrapers and pubescent girls body parts with them.

As mentioned further up thread, Kharg is a terminal, the oil is extracted elsewhere. If the US take Kharg all it means is that the Iranians will not be able to export through there, it doesn't mean that the US get the oil.

It would be a huge escalation.

He is elsewhere arguing that the US doesn't use the Straight of Hormuz, thereby prefacing blowing a few more things and then pulling out leaving a mess.

He STILL hasn't grasped the difference between security of oil supply, which they have, and cost, which they can't control.

As funny as these may be, I don't share the optimism of how this is going to end for Iran. Gaza like is probably the end game for Israel and the US will be happy to oblige.

Whilst Israel may wish for that, Iran is a huge country as you probably know. Israelis have already said they won’t put boots on the ground and there are plenty western experts saying it would be foolish for the US to do so.

Bombing from the air is one thing, but as Russia found out, when you put boots on the ground the gap in military strength narrows.

The Americans will be all too aware post Iraq and Afghanistan.

Kharg island could be the new Bay of Pigs invasion. A humiliation for the world’s mightiest military.

Russia took one of the Ukrainian islands in the Black Sea and were sittings ducks. They left hastily after the daily Ukrainian targeting.

The calculation will be whether Iran is willing to destroy it's own infrastructure.

Seeing as they are fundamentalist idealogues willing to die and send people to death for their cause, I'm going to say they would.

They will. For the US this is a war of choice. For the Iranians it’s a matter of survival and of fighting injustice. The Spirit of Karbala is a powerful school of thought in Shia Islam and the Iranians are well versed in suffering.

It’s clear at this stage that the Iranian public won’t over throw the leaders without help.
Maybe Trump is trying to cause enough friction elsewhere to distract the regime and give the people a chance at internal revolution?

A lot of Iranians dislike their Govt. But, the majority have united under the flag. There is little appetite for the offshore opposition (Pahlavi’s son).
