Should there be a ban on breeding, selling and owning XL Bullies?

  • Maiming machines with no place in public space - ban them now.

  • Never mind what kind, dogs in public should be muzzled and on leads.

  • A ban sounds appealing, but it's bad law. I'll explain why and suggest alternatives below.

And bought to breed and make money from then dumped because the market has disappeared. Awful to be pts animals who were created out of greed and vanity. My animal charity friend says they have real problems rehoming any bigger dogs from such owners as they often aren't socialised properly and aren't suitable for families or homes with other pets. The fine for dumping them is probably less than the pts cost.

I would think the possibility of being caught is almost zero, even if caught, fines / costs probably go unpaid.

feel sorry for the dogs and for the staff at the vets having to put down a dog for no good reason other than the owner is a ****

agree that a lot acquired them as a status symbol
and you status symbol doesn;t look as good with a muzzle I suppose

Wimpers is just rehoming a dog whose owner (fortunately) handed it into the vets. Due to a change of circumstances they could no longer afford to feed it let alone other costs. It had clearly been well looked after in the past. It's the most beautiful animal (we almost kept it), but it's off to a lovely new home, funnily enough now a mutual acquaintance of me and @Ian H ....

There are some happy stories.
