Should there be a ban on breeding, selling and owning XL Bullies?

  • Maiming machines with no place in public space - ban them now.

  • It's not the dogs, it's the owners! Here's a pic of my toddler sitting on my harmless land shark.

  • Never mind what kind, dogs in public should be muzzled and on leads.

  • A ban sounds appealing, but it's bad law. I'll explain why and suggest alternatives below.

Is it in bad taste to repeat that old cliche "There's no such thing as a bad dog...just a bad owner"?

I don't think the cliche holds that much water at the extremities of dog breeding.

I wonder what the background story to that was. Makes me wonder if many people are victims of their partner.

Owners will always be at risk.

Just so I understand: The law now states that XL Bullies must be muzzled when in public. And you're not allowed to breed with them or buy/sell them. And you're not allowed to own one unless you have an exemption certificate? So how does one get an exemption, and what are the grounds for exemption? The only thing I can think of is "the dog is my support mechanism, I want to keep him".

It would appear that you don't have to have a reason, you have to have complied with the list of requirements (micro chip, third party insurance etc) and, pay your £92, and, you have a lethal weapon at your disposal. ;)

Speaking to my daughter the other day, the anticipated dumping of dogs which hadn't been neutered, has arrived at the vet practice where she works.
On Sunday, one owner, having failed miserably to provide to my daughter a false name and address, simply walked out with the XL bully, tied it a lampost outside the practice and then drove off. (All captured on internal and external CCTV cameras.).
Then at 4:30pm, Merseyside police rang to say they were bringing round 8 XL bullies, all of which had been dumped, for them to be destroyed.

Cases of can't pay/won't pay no doubt....
