There's a book called Persepolis, written by Marjaneh Satrapi, which tells the story of the revolution through Marjaneh's eyes as she grows up. The hejab mandate came in when she was in primary school, and there's a scene in the book where Marjaneh's dad argues with the school principal about primary school girls having to wear it. At some point Marji's dad loses his rag and tells the principal that if women showing their hair is such a bad thing maybe she should shave her moustache.
