And of course the mullahs had to charge them for showing their hair

There's a book called Persepolis, written by Marjaneh Satrapi, which tells the story of the revolution through Marjaneh's eyes as she grows up. The hejab mandate came in when she was in primary school, and there's a scene in the book where Marjaneh's dad argues with the school principal about primary school girls having to wear it. At some point Marji's dad loses his rag and tells the principal that if women showing their hair is such a bad thing maybe she should shave her moustache.

Brilliant book. The film adaptation is top notch too.

She directed the film too.

There was an updated version a few years ago too, Persepolis 2.0, which was about the Iranian election at the time. Struggling to find it online, but I know the creators did it with Satrapi's blessing.

She's done a few other films (and books) too - Chicken with Plums and The Voices were particularly good.

She also directed a documentary/ biopic about Marie Curie that was on BBC 4 a couple of years ago. Very talented.
