An indicative marker as to the support for Israel, was the Eurovision song contest where UK public gave Israel the maximum 12 points.

I wouldn't read too much into that in terms of actual support for Israel. The public vote in Eurovision is massively flawed - you can vote as many times as you like.

Can't condone running in front of a bike race and the protest was a bit inept - but at least they're doing something.

The ptorestros were a bit unlucky that they were overshadowed by the crash chaos earlier in the day. Another day, and they could have been the headlines on La Gazette, L'Equipe et al ...

(I don't know why, but this Wout quote really tickled me:
I hadn’t seen the demonstrators with my own eyes. So I was shocked when I saw the images afterwards. It was insane. I’m just glad they weren’t glued to the ground." )

Anyway, I do wonder if this might ratchet up the attention slightly on Israel Premier Tech's participation at world level.

They did OK at Eurovision, of course. An interesting map, showing where countries sent their "12 points" to:

Let me explain.

This was a subjective vote for a song and the performer. (Possibly boosted by the fact that she had the "back story" of being at the festival that was the target of the horrendous Hamas attacks in October - fair play to her).

To think it an "indicative marker" as to the UK public support for Israel is, frankly, odd - although obviously posted by you to get a reaction as usual. . . which you have just got from me, so well done.

But this is what I don't get. Maybe I'm more on the Jury side due to being a musician. I just don't think the song was objectively very good. The performance was OK. It wasn't memorable. It wasn't catchy. It was just blah.

I can still hear Bara Bara Bastu. I can still remember the doll song. I enjoyed the song that was sung by the girl in the spotlight and the song by the undead member of kiss. I remember the jaunty tune and wiggly legs of coffee macchiato. I can remember the winning song thanks to the fierce and haunting voice of the singer. I can remember sod all about Israels entry except she climbed some scaffolding.

There was a lot of advertising encouraging people to use their 20 votes on the Israeli singer. All other voters were split between the remaining acts, so it was possible to win the maximum votes with 10% of the overall vote. Then that victory could be marketed as the silent majority as per this thread.

Public opinion in Spain is very markedly anti israel, so I struggle to see how a majority vote for israel happened other than via manipulation.

Add to that that you were allowed 20 votes but each vote cost 15p. That means most people won't bother voting. Those willing to spend £3 to boost a candidate would therefore find it fairly easy.
