It’s a fecking tour by a pop artist,, not a proclamation from gawd. FFS, get over it.

I don't think anyone is concerned about the musical content of his performances, just about the effect of his political non-political stance on Gaza and, more importantly, his mercenary chucking of wotsisname under a bus, rather than sticking up for his right to express in moderate terms his opinions (as the rest of his co-stars did).

Fair.
Will it really matter though? I mean, it would appear Burnham”s opinion is of little importance to Israel so a pop (poop) artist?

Never accept money from somebody that’s going to tell you what to do. The mob will come after you.

Maybe you are not comparing like with like.

Burnham's "importance" is considered in terms of immediate real world effects eg sanctions introduced, aid being delivered, etc.

A different "importance" is public opinion. People expressing their views can prompt others to consider those views and maybe (or maybe not) adjust their own opinions. Sometimes it just reassures them of their existing views. I feel it is public opinion that people standing on a stage can move.

Both aspects can be important in helping the situation. Public opinion might affect how extreme Israeli Government feels it can be (maybe indirectly through the Israeli electorate appreciating broader public opinion). But public opinion can also encourage others eg Burnham to take more specific actions eg sanctions.

IMO a pop artist’s (any pop artist) views are irrelevant.
Are we supposed to pay attention to Bono?

Maybe to us but just look at what many do because some unqualified "influencer" tells them to through YouTube or Tik-Tok. To many the utterances from these "celebrities" are listened to.

So personally I'd give something raised by Bono relating to an issue that concerns me the same consideration as I'd give the same point raised by somebody on this forum.

For me much depends on the individual, the issue, etc. eg Fergal Sharkey often appears on C4 News discussing the UK Water Companies. He is a celebrity and his frequent appearances on C4 News are probably in part because of his "celebrity" status (from his Undertones days). I never appreciated his music but discussing the Water Companies he is very coherent, raises specific points backed-up be fact, never comes across as a ideological fanatic, etc.

Meh. I pay attention to the message, not the messenger.
Becoming famous is no indication of intelligence. I can’t help people not grasping this.

Therein lies the difference. Sharkey has a subject he cares passionately about, has researched and wants to raise awareness of. Sheeran has been dragged into a debate on Israel / Palestine by someone else’s political views and comments. They are undoubtedly passionate and well-researched on the subject but Sheeran probably isn’t yet was being expected to make a definitive announcement on the subject.

He was merely expected to stand up for the fellow musician he'd hired.
