Just plodding along as always.
What succesfull comedians do is to judge any joke on its pros-and-cons. (e.g. Jimmy Carr doesn't just throw out his more "edgy" material - it's very well considered, like it or loathe it. He's a millionaire). The reaction here suggests this chap misjudged.

Now, just IMHO, I don't see how it's funny; in what way is "drive through crowds of people" a play on words?
Also, it's 'too soon' anyway.
EDIT: his previous record is not exactly winning me over:

The Concorde in Eastleigh, Hampshire, called off Andrew Lawrence's show after he tweeted the offensive remarks in the wake of the Euro 2020 final on Sunday.

However, it has now received an email warning staff they had "picked the wrong side" and risked being stabbed and attacked with hammers.

Police said they were investigating.

As well as threats of violence against staff, the message warned of arson attacks, food being contaminated and vehicles in the car park being vandalised.

"You will be financially ruined," said the email, which was signed off by a person identifying themselves only as "Gordon".

The email continued: "The Concorde Club will make a magnificent charred ruin."

It claimed the threats were justified because the hotel and gig venue had been "cowardly" and "joined a witch hunt to ruin a man's career".
Mr Lawrence's Twitter account was deleted after his posts on Sunday. He had identified England's black players as the reason for the team losing to Italy in a penalty shootout.

"But it was just a joke!"

- The war cry of the moron who says something incredibly offensive and then takes no responsibility for their actions by claiming everyone else is a snowflake or whatever 🙄

His agent, RBM Comedy, confirmed it was no longer representing him."
GOOD!

The unwritten law, so often trotted out, is that if you're offended then you don't go and watch that particular comedian. Or you walk out and never see them again. The fact that he's not as succesful is not really relevant, when supposed "top" comedians make jokes about cancer patients but it's all fair because they're famous and deliver the line with a bit more refinement. Picking and choosing what's offensive, and when, and only if said by whom, is stretching out the rules a bit too far I'd say. As long as it doesn't incite violence or prejudice or promote any sort of "ism" then the censorship stops there.

His previous record is unknown to me and thus also not relevant to my view on this.

It sort of is because he *was* successful. He was being represented by a top agent and appearing on panel shows like Mock the Week. He then tweeted out something :

Although having previously appeared on several comedy programmes on the channel, he went on to describe "liberal back-slapping panel shows like Mock the Week" as consisting of "aging, balding, fat men, ethnic comedians and women-posing-as-comedians, sit congratulating themselves on how enlightened they are about the fact that UKIP are ridiculous and pathetic".[13]

He got into a twitter spat with Dara O'Brien and Frankie Boyle, was dropped by his agent and moved very much to having absolutely no work. Since then he has built himself up as a cut price Jim Davidson with gems such as:
"All I'm saying is the white guys scored🤷‍♂️". After Twitter users challenged him, he quoted his original tweet, stating that "I can see that this has offended a lot of people, and I'm sorry that black guys are bad at penalties. 🙏".
Obviously work has dried up again so he posted a deliberate bad taste joke about the events in Liverpool to try and drum up some publicity.

Well based on that then, I don't like him. But I was only judging on the liverpool crowd joke, which is in poor taste but no worse than other jokes that have been made. To be clear, I also don't agree with the liverpool joke. But if you ban/ruin someone's career over a joke then you should be doing that for everyone which is where censoring and dictatorship comes in. More grey areas than a mouse in fog

He's doing the standard thing of blaming everyone but himself when he thinks he's being treated unfairly.

Simple fact is that he's just not very funny and doesn't really know how to read a crowd (I've been to one of his shows).

Comedy is a risky business where only a tiny minority can make a living from it. This guy is one of those who just maybe might not.

If your 'customers' are the public and you say stuff they don't like they are going to stop being your customers. So called comedians like this are effectively cancelling themselves - if enough people found his comments funny then there'd be a market for him.

No - he's chosen not to.

That's the outcome but I doubt very much that this was the choice he made.
It definitely was. He chose to piss off almost every comedian that knew him. He chose to publish something that would cause his agency to drop him. Initially people thought he had had some sort of break down. Turns out he'd just been bottling up a lot of racism, sexism etc.

"Misjudged, wrong, offensive, take your pick."
