Hunt isn't stupid. He knows he said enough to keep "in" rather than actually believing what he said.

That isn't a compliment. It just about describes most politicians...particularly this current shower of Tories.

The fact that he may have been a Remainer doesn't mean he isn't a self-serving ar*ehole.

There are now people saying that a Johnson resurrection is possible.

The reason is that the Tory party are facing absolute oblivion if Truss leads them into an election.
A Johnson premiership would be the less worse option, because for some reason a few people will vote for the buffoon because he seems fun. So instead of a 150 seat loss he might limit it to an 80 seat loss.
You can see that Truss simply can’t lie and bullshit as well as Johnson. He has a special talent for stupid people believing his complete bullshit.

Whilst I kind of agree, I think he has more brains and cunning than Truss, Johnson, Dorries, Kwarteng, Patel, Braverman et al.
I have a tiny bit of respect for Gove and Hunt. Whilst they are both venal and self-serving, they do respect the way that government is supposed to work and will engage with the civil service and bodies like the Office for Budget Responsibility.

I kind of agree with you there but they behave differently outside of cabinet collective responsibility.

Other major news is that Tobias Ellwood has had the whip restored. He jumped straight in, in blaming Brexit and Johnson for setting the seeds of the financial crisis. (BBC World Service 8 to 8.30)

“it would be more strategically astute for the Conservatives to let Labour confront the economic challenges of the next two years”

What’s he basically saying is “we can’t possibly clean up our own mess, so let the grownups do it, and we’ll blame them for it anyway”

What I like most is the assumption that ANYONE can clear up the mess in only two years! If only! ;)

The idea no doubt is to blame Labour for the decline, sneaking back in later
