The idea no doubt is to blame Labour for the decline, sneaking back in later

Who would have guessed that?

What I like most is the assumption that ANYONE can clear up the mess in only two years! If only! ;)

He's not saying let them clear it up over the next two years, but let them take the flack over that period.

That would be unavoidable but at least there would be another three years to try and make a start to improve things.

Whatever, but, even five years is optimistic in my view.

The bigger picture is Labour will change very little, marginally better than the Tories.

May as well leave things as they are then hey? :okay:
Did I say that ? Am I meant to be enthusiastic about things being marginally better ? Or should I accept were basically a right wing electorate here in England.Id credit Scotland and Wales have far better choices than us.

Vote for the Tories then, or UKIP or Reform and have done with it then.

The even bigger picture is there no credible political movement that would improve much of the current problems in the foreseeable future. This is a task for the next couple of governments and I would prefer Labour to be in a position to try rather than the only alternative in our FPTP system.

The issue for Truss isn't any of this though. The Tories know that they are not going to win the next general election.
However, Truss and Kwarteng have manage to get things to the point that the Tories would be wiped out if an election were to happen now.
There are a lot of moats that will lose vital sources of funding once those political connections are broken.

There are lots of rumours that the party will swiftly find a way to defenestrate Truss and put in a combination of Sunak / Mordaunt / Hunt to start to reassure voters that the stables are being cleaned and sanity restored to the party in the hope that some of the safe seats become safe again.

If Truss stays they know that they are dead in the water.
