All words are made up Andy - that's how words work. Islamophobia is a neologism and portmanteau. They are very common - particularly "phobia" neologisms.

Maybe the USA should start with those before moving onto "foreign" religions?

I'm pretty sure that you find the bulk of the Amish and Mennonites, the Scientologists (created by an American) and a fair quota of hacidic Jews in the USA. A fair few Jehovas as well. We all know that it's a very Christian country and last time I checked that was a Middle Eastern religion the same as Islam.

If you want to nit pick, all religions are foreign to the USA which used to be peopled by the tribal peoples of america.
