Strictly Come Dancing forced to activate Britain’s emergency C-list reserves
Strictly Come Dancing has been forced to activate Britain’s emergency C-list reserves after decades of reckless celebrity consumption left the nation dangerously short of contestants everyone has heard of.
With another series of Strictly getting underway, experts have warned that Britain is rapidly approaching “Peak Celebrity”, the point at which the nation can no longer produce famous people quickly enough to satisfy the demands of reality television.
Entertainment sustainability expert Simon Williams explained, “For twenty years we’ve burned through celebrities like we thought they’d never run out.
“We’ve chucked them into dancing shows, cooking shows, skating shows, jungles and SAS training camps without giving a single thought to who would be left for reality shows when our children hold the remote control.
“In the early days you could stick a drill into Saturday night television and immediately hit a rich seam of actors, footballers and pop stars that virtually everyone recognised.
“Those easily accessible deposits of celebrities have now run completely dry. Now we’re fracking Instagram for people with 200,000 followers.”
The BBC has insisted Britain still possesses substantial celebrity reserves, although insiders admit producers are increasingly having to extract lower-grade fame from difficult sources such as reality television, regional radio and people professionally adjacent to someone genuinely famous.
Williams continued, “We’ve reached the point where Chris Appleton, whose primary claim to fame is being a hairdresser to genuinely famous people, is himself being mined for celebrity.
“That’s like running out of North Sea oil and starting to squeeze the seagulls.”
Government ministers have rejected calls for immediate celebrity rationing, insisting programmes such as Love Island continue to provide Britain with a reliable source of renewable celebrities.
However, experts warn these newer deposits often require considerable processing before the average viewer can recognise them.
Strictly producers are understood to have contingency plans should Britain’s C-list reserves become exhausted, including increased celebrity imports from Australia and drilling beneath the North Sea for previously undiscovered members of Bucks Fizz.
Williams added, “We need to start recycling.
“Stick someone from series three back on Strictly.
“Nobody will farking remember.”
