I'd agree that journalists who work for The Sun are pure scum. I think Wotton is scum (he used to work for the Sun). I think Oakeshot and her colleagues on the Mail are scum. Johnson is scum.

There's a difficulty making that judgment - immorality means something slightly different to every individual.

For example, I was surprised at the generally forgiving attitude of the public to Huw Edwards.

As I observed, most anyone else who was caught messing with teenagers, even if it was legal, would have been universally pilloried.

Going back to hacks, my list of immoral ones would be a lot shorter than yours, confirming our respective moralities are different.

Further, I think it fairer to suggest some journalists are guilty of immoral conduct over certain stories, not that they are thoroughly immoral individuals.

A freelance mate of mine who works for the nationals has occasionally been put into a moral quandary by some of the requests from the national newsdesks.

In that arena, if you knock back a job you are finished for the foreseeable future, which can have a big impact on your ability to put food on the table.

I reckon he will have done a handful of stories that you, if not I, would describe as immoral.

But anyone meeting the bloke, whether you like him or not, could fairly brand him as immoral.

If the parent says that the child was contacted and offered money for sexually explicit pictures which fuelled the child's drug habit and the chaild says none of that happened, which one is telling the truth?

You can't ruin someone's career and jail them based on hearsay.
If it did happen then it is clear that the young person in question still doesn't regard it as something that he wants Edwards prosecuted for.
