My daughter has taken on the cake making mantle in our house (previously my wife's specialtty)-
This was her effort for my wife's last birthday (the inside was rainbow cake with surprise centre - this cake had enough sugar in to incapacitate many people!):-

When my girls were growing up, each birthday that was my job.
We have a book of celebration cake ideas, which range from a straightforward caterpillar through various animals and other constructions, to an extravagant multi turreted castle. My wife made a selection from the book a couple of weeks in advance then it was pretty much down to me.

Grant Shapps has used House of Commons paper to write to Kier Starmer and ask him to pay for Just Stop Oil’s damage.
It seems to imply we can all write to the Conservative Party and ask for our money back on PPE and anything else they have wasted money on where they have some vague influence.
This is the best talent in the current Government. What a moron.

I think this is indicative of Tory tactics.

Maybe the likes of Adam will start to understand the traction this letter would get IF Starmer had openly supported JSO, or indeed any other of the marches, strikes etc that Adam feels he should.

That Shapps's attempt will fail is down to Labour learning the lessons of 2019.

False dichotomy. Starmer was never being asked to publicly endorse people throwing orange powder on snooker tables or whatever. All he had to do is set out a serious green energy platform, then he could be as snotty as he likes about their tactics, because he'd be in a position to argue that they would not be necessary.

It's frankly hilarious. He's chastising the Labour Party for listening to the group who are strongly suggesting the planet will fry if we don't make changes. A group backed by all credible scientists and a huge body of research.

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
Well they can't exactly criticise him on policy can they?

Desperate....the chances of Starmer supporting something worthwhile have long passed me by.

That's a strawman rather than a false dichotomy, but my point stands. It is clear that Starmer's caution is all about avoiding giving the Tories ammunition. Watching Corbyn bumbling about providing own goal after own goal was painful.

Yes.

You are happier with a hard right Tory government with an 180 majority than with a Labour party that might actually get into power.
You know me better than I know myself...genius 🙄

Yup. Hasn't he already condemned their tactics, AND supported the Tory anti-protest laws*??
He has an open goal to support green energy, whilst condemning "orange nutters delaying hard-working family drivers [etc]".

The parallel is (simplistically!) with Norn Ireland and the IRA. British politicians were on rock-solid ground condemning terrorists, but were still seen in a good light when negotiating for peace. win-win, everyone's happy!

*not that I WANT a party in charge that supports those changes, but that's the tactic Starmer's currently going with ...
