Strictly it is always exactly true for the median of a continuous distribution, whatever its shape, as that is the definition of the median. In general, for things like weight, height and so on the distribution approximates a gaussian, and mean, median and mode will be very close to each other.
For a very asymmetric discrete distribution things can sound weird unless you think carefully about it.

I try not to.

Pedant alert:

Is this true, whether the average is the mean, median or mode? It is probably true more often when the median is used as the average, less so when the mean or mode are used.

O'Brien was lucky in that he argued with someone with no understanding of statistics.

I think this is Good Pedantry. Because:
it seems quite likely* that SOMEONE will be average. In which case less than 100% are NOT average. So half of that figure MUST BE less than 50%

*It's certain if you mean mode or median, but merely likely for mean. I think ...

I often reflect how lucky I am in that I have an above average number of legs (2).

At this point, I no longer know where satire and reality begin and end.

I felt the same watching Labour's new promotional video. Not sure choosing a song whose translated lyrics are pretty grim was a good call either. Keir's not having a good week in terms of getting his message across..... and it's only Monday.

Whoever signed off on that needs to have a word with themselves. They were talking about introducing a regulatory framework for AI not so long ago too.

Has this already been posted?

Some of the school children took part in a video signposting refugees to the sort of services the Welsh Refugee Council provides – such as English lessons and details on how to access a doctor.

After the video went viral on X, concerns were raised that the footage had been edited to remove male school children and omit details of the welcome project relating to Ukrainian refugees.
Of course Musk got involved:

... and dear Isabel Oakeshott:

Heaven forfend that anyone here would be so foolish as to be taken in by highly selective and mendaciously edited far right propaganda, and/or find themselves gradually inching towards a far-right position because they have unthinkingly engaged with far-right lighting rod issues specifically designed to draw them in and expose them to other far-right content.

Can't imagine any current or past members falling for that. Oh no.
