Without judging whether it's a wise or just decision, one has to wonder if the reported decision by the EU as a bloc to send weapons to Ukraine doesn't confirm some of the concerns raised by some of those who voted to leave.

For good or for ill, it does seem like a very bold step to take. It seems like the EU will emerge from this conflict in a very different shape from when it began.

How does that fence feel, Jim? You're looking pretty good up there!

What fence? My opinion on whether it's a wise or just idea is a completely separate issue from the acknowledgement that it may confirm the concerns of some leave voters. I'm not on the fence, it's just a distraction from the point I'm making.

I was just admiring the delicate way you totally avoided any value judgements on those "concerns"

And that's why we love him so.

Sure most of us are fairly glad at least in the short term that the EU are standing up to the bully boy, even if it's a bit too little too late, and it's ultimately more godawful munitions and killing devices..

But what should they do.??
Stand by and tell Putin off for being a naughty boy,??

Of course it's an impossible situation now -damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, that maybe could have been prevented.

I don't pretend to know..

But I support them intervening in solidarity if it's likely to shorten this conflict, possibly avoid casualties..

Again I don't pretend to know..

But just imagine an EU coalition army..
It would be so couched about with H&S directives, working time regulations, and proscription of toxic chemical usage.

It'd be great imo if all 'warring' could be run by the EU..

All conflicts be decided by games of (non CFC) foam lance bicycle jousting , done on the level playing field of a car-free square in Brussels..

Agreed,

Especially when some of us are still just trying to make everything more peas-full..

It is important to understand one's own biases but I would like maintain some semblance of fair debate, even under the threat of impending nuclear armageddon.

There don't seem to be many here still trying to justify their decision to leave the EU but if any of them want to pop up and say 'I told you so' then it wouldn't be entirely inappropriate. Or just have a chat about the war. A lot of them seemed to love a bit of war, didn't they?

I think what they actually loved was fantasies about wars they'd never experienced, nor even been born into ..
