There's staffing shortages all over Europe, not just Airports.I was reading recently the tourism industry in Spain is short of 100,000 staff ! Can't recruit people although I'm guessing if they paid a decent wage the posts would get filled 🙄
Can we blame it all on Brexit ? No but a lot of staff/crew were from Europe so I'm guessing there's obstacles to re hiring from Europe.....that and the low wages there paying.
Now only if there was some sort of organisation we could join which would make it easier to employ people to fill those vacancies 🙄

True, you didn't blame EVERYTHING on Brexit.

What "obstacles" would there be to recruiting from "Europe".

By "Europe", did you mean "the EU Countries of Europe", or, "the continent of Europe" (the latter includes some non-EU countries, including of course, ourselves).

Do I say it was all to do with Brexit or did I mention paying decent wages ?

It's June the 9th here so officially summer hasn't started.Maybe different where you are.

I always thought that June 21st, or thereabouts, was mid-summer day?, if so, and summer hasn't started yet (9th June), does that mean summer in UK is a maximum of 24 days long?

Yes, you did mention "decent wages", but, would they come to UK for decent wages, I thought we were a "low wage economy"?

I'm not sure what's difficult about this....
Steve Heapy, Jet2 Chief Executive, blames Brexit for the shortage of staff:
“Brexit has taken hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people out of the employment market and that undoubtedly is having an impact...”
That and a government that allows employers to offer zero hour contracts and poverty wages.
So as you see it's not all Brexit.

It's a pleasure to put you right.

I too never said it was all Brexit.

If, as Steve Heapy claims, Brexit has taken hundreds of thousands, if not millions out of the (UK) employment market, (I added UK, I assume that is what he meant?, please feel free to correct me), then, presumably, those hundreds of thousands if not millions have gone back to EU Countries, so, why are the EU Countries so short of employees? It would appear, if it had not been for Brexit, those Countries would have been in real trouble?

I'm not saying it's all down to brexit. What about the greedy travel/Air industry sacking a massive amount of their staff during covid to ensure shareholders & the management could still get their massive bonuses out of the businesses and their furlough money of the goverment.
I wonder if their now offering decent wages and conditions ? Like feck they are....wasn't one of the sunlit uplands of Brexit higher wages 🙄

But it is Brexit. That's been proven over and over again.
This isn't though.

People spent years telling people to 'Go back to where they came from,' now these same people complain about lack of staff in many industries, including aviation, because they all went home.
Because if it was, and they really did go home, all highly trained and ready to go as you suggest here........
but the UK is also saddled with the staffing issues arising from Brexit...which incidentally gave EU airports an added staff recruitment base of people with airport experience who did not/could not want to return to the UK.
Then how come they have no staff in Europe?

You can't say that on one hand we have seen thousands, or even millions, of highly trained airport staff go home "ready to go", and also that the problem in Europe they have no trained staff. Where did they all suddenly vanish to?

Nobody on here has said they have no staff in Europe. You are the one making that sh*t up to suit your own argument. They have staffing issues because of the number of people they let go.....as we do. People have got other jobs, were possibly disillusioned by their treatment by the air companies, and have been slow at returning to their previous jobs...as we do. They do not have problems caused by worker movement......as we do.

Nobody has said "they have no trained staff" in Europe. And nobody but you has even hinted at the missing millions of highly trained airport staff.

Please open up your mind to look at the issues not your Brexit ideology. Brexit has ramifications and this is an example of one.

Thank you, every day is a school day, taken me 75 years to learn that ;)
There are 4 versions of the seasons: astronomical, meteorological, calendar, and because they don't quite agree with each other, there's also the version that says the season is what the weather is doing at any particular moment. Which explains why there can be 4 seasons in one day.

Yes, I was aware of that, but, I was happy to allow Adam his little victory, supported by selective “facts”.
