Oh no!! Brexit not going quite as well as hoped

The industry is constantly telling us that isn't lack of labour, EU or otherwise. It is lack of time to train the staff, it takes 8-10 weeks, and so it doesn't matter how many staff they have, they didn't prepare for teh training because of Covid.

So, this is not a Brexit thing, it is definitely a Covid thing.

Obviously if this doesn't suit your narrative, feel free to simply carry on saying it is Brexit.

But it is Brexit. That's been proven over and over again.

People spent years telling people to 'Go back to where they came from,' now these same people complain about lack of staff in many industries, including aviation, because they all went home.

That def doesn't suit your narrative.

Ought we to be flying?
No, we didna, unless it's a big ol' emergency.
Imo.

But that's for another thread .

Just like we didna ought to be driving private fossil fuelled cars...

But we're hopefully in a transition to a better place .

Imo brexit has made all that more difficult.
UK gov clearly doesn't give a fark about climate change, or environmental regulation.

Thats partly what brexit was about, doing away with all that pesky regulation stuff that is supposed to protect us, and the environment...

In favour of profiteering by a few.

It all just got a whole heap harder to 'do the right thing'

...she says off to beat the bejezus out of some blameless nettles.. 🙄

So, this is not a Brexit thing, it is definitely a Covid thing.

I reckon it's a mixture of the two. The govt wasn't that willing to help industry out during the lockdown era, so companies like airlines couldn't retain staff. They left and found other jobs, and now there is a chronic shortage of security people and baggage handlers as things have returned to being a bit more like normal.

It is also true that the UK no longer has access to a Europe-wide labour market, and there has been a drift back to the continent of EU citizens who either are or perceive they are no longer wanted in the UK. They cannot easily be replaced, so shortages are more than likely. A better handled Brexit might have avoided this problem.

If you believe the ERG/UKIP rhetoric, they just wanted to get OUT soonest.

The rhetoric expressed an ideology, and as is the case so often with ideologies the facts have had to be adjusted to suit the ideology rather than the ideology adjusted to suit the facts. The biggest failure imo was not getting a reasonable consensus as to what Britain wanted as opposed to what they didn't want.

The biggest fantasy was the UK would be free to do as they please post Brexit, and the problem of Northern Ireland couldn't be a better illustration of how this false this is.

I don't think this is likely to improve in the near future, I can't imagine the EU being willing to negotiate changes with a Johnson govt, as he simply cannot be trusted. There are also plenty of other problems to deal with at the moment that take predecence over helping out an ex-member who messed up their exit.

Great isn’t it?

The UK’s shitty outlook is only surpassed by the most sanctioned country in the world.

Thank goodness Johnson got all the big calls right, eh, or we’d be in a right pickle.

Only those who need to have meetings , because there is no solution to that .... oh wait.

To be honest, at least here in big corporate, flying for meetings has reduced to close zero. You have to make a very good case to buy a plane ticket.
I fly only because I can't make, taste food or run food production-line trials via the interwebs. As my expertise is quite niche, I get around a fair bit.

And before you mention-it, I shouldn't be making those products at all....

You could brew some nettle beer with it.
Quite a nice brew.
I know, I know, and make cordial from the elderflowers, skin the wabbits to make a westcoat, weave my own yoghurt from freshly pressed vegans, and make magic potions to cure all manner of ailments from plantain and cleaver juices .

Meanwhile, I really love the fact that other people make high quality, drinkable beer, and am more than happy to pay them to do that.. :okay:
