That's where it gets annoying. Somewhat surprisingly all my uni student contacts are active on WA even if they barely use FB. None of them have asked to use Signal (either the app or the toothpaste).

You're thinking about this all wrong. You are an influencer. You should be getting freebies and promoting stuff with kick backs, but clearly you're above that, so you should simply promote good stuff with a kick back for the world.
