Yes but you aren't 18.

GenZs use it to mean people who are as old as they will be after they next blink, and who they think are old because they don't act quite as much like a lemming in relation to the next big thing that's just the same as the last one.

Yeah well, we can generalise, stereotype and criticise GenZ too. Nobody is immune to it.

It surprises me that people still use Facebook. My reluctance to use it used to cause communication problems with people, but I rarely hear about it now. Instead they all moan about my not using whatsapp.

Other people may have communications problems with me afaik, but I have no problems in communicating (or more usually not communicating) with anyone that I wish to.
I remain in blissful boomer deliberate ignorance of social media as a means of communication...but I know this possibly cannot go on forever.

Early days FB was pretty good and allowed me to reconnect with people I hadn’t seen in 20 years (after a while I realised why I hadn’t been in touch with some of them in that time). These days it’s almost unusable and I only keep my account as there are a few organisations I’m involved with who use it as their main method of communication. I get notifications days after I should, I see stuff from loads of groups I have no interest in but nothing from those I’m actually a member of. Instagram is just as bad, I really wonder who has written the algorithms that recommend some of the shite to me as I have zero interest and have never shown any interest in them.

Sums it up. Used to be useful* for organising stuff. Now if someone posts something useful you'll never find it again, even if you notice in the first place.
* Of course I had to get over the 'friend' thing. Friends are people you've known since at least the start of secondary school.

FB is more useful for groups (and pages if you're into that kind of thing). I run three, one of which has over 18,000 members. don't (so far) have the clutter and ads that afflict the rest of the app.

It is useless.
The other day a photo popped up from about 10 years ago which I really wanted to keep.
I can’t find it, once it’s gone from the front page it is lost.
I’m also getting invited too late to things which happened last week.

I was trying to find a useful video of Sondheim's 'Send in the Clowns for a pupil, and stumbled on this version by Judi Dench. It really did make me wonder if there has been any other actor who can can convey so much with just their facial expression - it just looks so unforced & 'unactory', and therefore so powerful. Extraordinary.

Unlike Emma Thompson whose every role shouts out “look at me I’m acting”.

I just find her (Dench) extraordinarily beautiful.
