I remember when I lived in France and discovered that strawberries actually have a taste (unlike the "bouncing strawberries" in the UK).

Ian

The strawbs are 10€ a kilo, but are indeed gert lush. Pudding of choice, with fromage blanc. Gotta eat 'em while they're in season. August will be peaches, nectarines and melons. It's tough, but someone's gotta do it.

Well, yes.

I do remember those bottle of milk. And breaking the foil cap with a straw. It was an odd ritual, looking back.

Straws hadn't been invented when I was a kid. We drank straight from the bottle

Something nasty in the woodshed

Without reading the post, when I saw that DAAS embed I just assumed it would be The Lost Works Of Gilbert & Sullivan, or that one they did about dogs. They are profoundly appropriate to the level of this place, and I would urge everyone to seek them out.

It still feels wrong when I'm at the French house to be using water that's better quality than bottled mineral water (it's straight from an underground aquifer beneath a limestone plateau, just UV-treated) for doing the washing. When I was first here, I didn't realise, and occasionally bought bottled water to drink (well, it's what you do in France), then realised I was being an idiot.

Still the laundry's done, and it's going out to dry in the sun and gentle breeze, while I go for a ride after a salad lunch in the garden.

Brilliant group. Onlyseen them on video, never live. Earlier stuff a lot better than more recent.

Ian

Went to see them at Huddersfield Town Hall a couple of years ago, they were great. More recently went to see the Grand old Uke of York at Nunnington Hall, a more local vibe but again great.
