Have you only just discovered those monstrosities?! Been around for a while. At least the ones used for their designed purpose make sense, but the "Platinum" edition is a joke.

No, seen them before, but both the ugliness and brutal front end (and lack of sightlines from the windscreen) were particularly stark from this perspective, I thought.

My petrolhead friend at least has the sense to prefer vintage cars which generally had a decent view of the road immediately in front of the car. It's hard to appreciate just how small his Lancia Appia is – but it's just wide enough for two normal-sized people to sit side by side.

Bit harsh that as a comparison, but I get the point.

Like I said, these trucks make sense when they're used for what they're intended, but selling them for general trundling around is madness. Same with Land Rovers over here I guess, although I have seen a few F150s around recently.

I see an increasing amount. And all are status symbols which are never used for their intended use.
They are simply too large for our streets. Yes, I've seen a couple driving with wheels on the pavements either side of the road!

I did have a chuckle watching one going into a multi storey in town a few weeks ago, as the dangling height restriction sign scraped along the cab.

Ran a 10k race this morning in a pretty mediocre (even for me) 49 minutes but I was properly cooked as I’m just unfit at the moment. However, when I uploaded it to Strava it gave me a new predicted 10k time of 47 minutes. What part of a 49 minute run at high HR makes it think I can run 2 minutes faster next time? At least it didn’t give me the dreaded ‘unproductive’.

I think the fairer comparisons are between cars that even in 2000 were considered average-size cars and their modern equivalents - it does bring home how both taste and safety regulations have conspired to supersize our concept of what a 'normal-sized' car is.

Yup. The taste and safety regulations thing especially. Everyone seems to want a Qashqai or a Juke, but they're stuffed full of so much safety stuff that the interiors are tiny. Bizarre.

I think my R-reg Renault Clio was my favourite car, being a fun little thing to drive, but ample for four people - kind of the sweet spot between safety and fun/practical.
