I love a good rabbit stew. Um, I think there was a butchers in Malvern that had rabbit from time time, I should go there soon.

Potter did have her pet rabbit killed and stuffed so she could draw it. I don't know whether it became a stew, but I wouldn't be surprised.

A very good friend of mine's mum eventually cooked their pet rabbit, but I discovered had never told the daughter, even when she was in her 40s and had a family of her own. Let's just say I had to do some very furious diversionary babbling when I realised that the secret hadn't been shared in adulthood.

Not entirely sure why it isn't more popular these days, other than Watership Down, and the Beatrix Potter books. It's good meat, and the population (as with deer) needs controlling. Use to be dead cheap. Dead.

My Gran used to cook a lovely rabbit stew. I remember her peeling the rabbits like a glove.

The Warren House Inn does a good rabbit stew, with a warning about the possible presence of lead-shot.

Yes, it's a satisfying procedure. Try the same on a squirrel*, and you'll conclude that they use much much stronger glue.

*feeds one, but tasty enough.

Rabbits were a staple part of many families' diets in the 50s. Butcher shops always used to have loads of them hanging up.

We used to keep rabbits in the farm when I was growing up. One trick we used to help speed up the skinning was to pump air under the skin, then you only needed a couple of cuts in strategic places and the hide just fell out. Useful when you had a pile of them to proces.

Clever. Yes, I can see that working well.

Watching my dog eating a rabbit head was not for the sqeamish, but he loved it.

Ah, didn't know that. One of the Dartmoor industries 'back in the day'.

BTW, the EU has just outlawed lead in lead shot, though I the danger to teeth won't change. I expect Reform would like to retain the option to die from lead poisoning as a Brexit benefit.

Shooting acquaintances of mine have been steeling themselves for this.

BTW, that was a garden path sentence of yours... I wondered which acquaintances you'd been shooting... I'd seen nothing in the East Devon News.
