I went straight to a ward for a week afterwards. I only fainted briefly, then experienced morphine. Then ketamine, which was better. Then not enough morphine.

Yes, but this all happened before you were released.
Sounds bad though so you have my sympathy for that.

Good question. I think that kind of thing would be on my list of deserving cases. Free, or nominal amount? Not sure.

No idea if it is nationwide, but, locally, at least one hospital gives free parking to patients attending for Cancer follow-up treatment (eg chemo etc).

I have now come around to this way of thinking, for staff. If there's any employer that is perfectly set up for active travel or public transport, it's the NHS.

What are your thoughts on patients though? I had to do 3 or 4 months of twice weekly physio, which took a whole morning. Due to the injury, driving was the only real option and even getting from the car park to the ward was bad enough.

This was in Scotland, and I was grateful to not be shelling out £5 each time for parking, as at the time I was still a trainee and money was tighter.

There are people who had it far worse than me. I always felt this was a cruel surcharge.

Given their occupation, and, how we are all told the health benefits of being active, I would have that there would be maximum enthusiasm among NHS staff, for "active travel".

Practical experience tells me this is not so.

Same could be said for smoking, drinking and diet. "Do as I say, not as I do."

Yeah, I was going to mention the number of overweight NHS staff, but, didn’t want to be accused of being judgemental (daughter no4 makes that accusation almost daily 😊)

I'm sure something could be developed for A&E.

Saw this on a FB post about an increase in hospital car parking charges, and wasn't sure where to start with the logic, not least as the entire area around the hospital is free parking for residents with a parking permit, or pay & display for visitors. Maybe she means she should be allowed to drive a few hundred metres to park in the hospital car park for free. Baffled.
